SAMR: nine companies announced recalls in August, some involving emergency door handles

China's market regulator SAMR said recalls of cars from nine companies were announced on August 21. Several of the campaigns cited a problem with how easily the mechanical emergency door release handles can be recognized; the scope and the fix depend on each notice.

Event date: August 21, 2026 · Published: October 12, 2026

A summary published by SAMR on August 24 covers the announcements of August 21 and lists nine companies. The regulator described a common hazard affecting some of the cars: the mechanical emergency release handles may be similar in color to the interior trim, which makes them harder to recognize. In a severe collision combined with a loss of low-voltage power, this could make it harder to open the doors quickly.

The individual notices show different scopes and different ways of removing the risk. SAMR listed 339,069 and 51,366 units in two batches of the Xiaomi SU7, 48,625 units of the Leapmotor C01 and 322,575 units of the C11. That gives 390,435 for the listed Xiaomi batches and 371,200 for the listed Leapmotor models; the totals are simple sums of the figures in the notices, not a new official aggregate.

In separate entries, the regulator listed 92,658 Zeekr 007/X cars, as well as 57,688 iCAR 03 and 10,800 Fengyun X3. These scopes should not be applied to all cars from these manufacturers. For the listed models, the measures include warning labels and software updates; for selected Chery models, the regulator also listed replacement of the handle cover.

This list does not mean a single joint campaign or one scope for all brands. Owners should check the model, model year and VIN in the local notice from the manufacturer or the regulator.
