According to CnEVPost, XPeng announced its robotaxi under the name Xpeng Yoyo. The English name was chosen to be easy to pronounce around the world, which the company sees as a first step toward going abroad. The announcement did not give a launch date for passenger service or a fleet size.
Earlier statements by CEO He Xiaopeng, from the August 24 earnings call, mention more than 2,000 internal test rides in Guangzhou and a goal of launching a service without a safety driver in 2027. In 2027, XPeng plans to work with Chinese and foreign mobility platforms. Revenue is to come from vehicle sales, technology services and a share of operating revenue. The company also announced it will open a robotaxi SDK, with Amap as the first global partner.
Technical data according to the manufacturer
The car is based on the GX SUV and is meant to meet Level 4 autonomy requirements. The system relies on cameras only, without lidar or high-definition maps. According to the company, it has four in-house Turing chips with an effective 3,000 TOPS of computing power and the VLA 2.0 model.
For now this is a name and plans, not a running service. It is not known in which city or when the first commercial rides will start, or when XPeng's robotaxi will appear outside China.
