BYD humanoid robot design published by China's patent office

China's intellectual property office published a BYD design for an "embodied intelligence robot" on October 9, 2026. These are patent drawings, not a product launch.

Event date: October 9, 2026 · Published: October 12, 2026

According to CnEVPost, the design was published by the CNIPA. The drawings show a two-legged robot with two arms, movable fingers, an oval head with a dark face, and light-colored panels on the body and limbs. CarNewsChina describes it as black and white, with a rounded head and no display. According to the patent description, the robot is meant to walk, keep its balance and interact, with uses in services, education and industry.

The design covers appearance only. As CnEVPost points out, it says nothing about specifications or production progress, and does not settle whether the final product will look like this. CarNewsChina notes a resemblance to the "Xiao Di" robot BYD announced earlier (according to earlier company data: 1.61 m tall, 58.5 kg, 31 degrees of freedom).

What BYD said before

On July 28, BYD told China Securities Journal that it planned to show a humanoid robot in August at Di Space. According to CnEVPost, there had still been no official presentation as of October 9. Vice President Stella Li said in June that the company would eventually like to have two or three robots in each showroom presenting cars, but that robots would not replace contact with sales staff.

It is not yet known when or in what form an official presentation will take place, or whether the robot will go into production.
