Chery submerged the TIGGO 9 CSH battery in salt water for 24 hours

Chery and FEV described a test in which the TIGGO 9 CSH high-voltage battery was submerged in a salt solution for a day and then reinstalled in the car. The manufacturer published results of a leak-tightness test and a later test of underbody contact with an obstacle.

Event date: September 23, 2026 · Published: October 12, 2026

The test took place on September 23, 2026 in Constanța, Romania. The 34.46 kWh battery was submerged for 24 hours in a 3.5 percent sodium chloride solution.

Chery's announcement said no visible corrosion, swelling or leakage was found after removal. According to the measurement description, the pressure loss rate was 8.067 pascals per minute, against a pass criterion of below 31 pascals per minute, and insulation resistance exceeded 500 megaohms.

After the battery was reinstalled, the car drove over a 250 mm obstacle at 14 to 15 km/h. Chery said the coating of the underbody shield was damaged but the battery casing did not crack; these are results of a test described by the manufacturer and FEV, not an independent road test.
