China: 4,275,000 cars called back for a fix
About this video
4,275,000 cars to fix. With one decision. In August, a Chinese regulator announced a service campaign by 9 manufacturers. Almost 3 million of those cars are Teslas. The reason? The emergency handle that opens the door from inside. It matches the interior color, and after a crash with no power, it is hard to find. The fix is surprisingly modest. For most cars, it is a sticker and an update that lowers the windows by itself after a collision. But China is going further. From January, new models must have door handles that open mechanically. From outside and from inside. Electric door handles were meant to be a symbol of modernity. They have become a safety problem. And Europe? There is no such campaign so far. The Dutch regulator only says it is watching the issue.
