Chinese factories in Europe

About this video

27 percent. That is the tariff the EU adds to an electric BYD from China. A car assembled in Europe does not pay it. That is why Chinese brands want to build factories here. So far, two are running. Xpeng and GAC assemble cars at Magna in Graz, Austria. In Barcelona, in a former Nissan plant, cars are built for the Ebro brand, in which Chery holds 40 percent. A year ago, BYD showed a slide: Szeged in Hungary, start at the end of 2025. Now it says the end of the following year. It promised 10 thousand jobs. In February, 960 people worked there. And it is often assembly from parts shipped from China. And Poland? It voted for the tariffs. Hungary was against, Spain abstained. And that is where Chinese factories are going today.
