BYD: 400 km of range in 5 minutes of charging
About this video
5 minutes. 400 kilometers of range. That is what BYD promises with a charger rated at 1,000 kilowatts. That is one megawatt. Range is added at 2 kilometers per second. In March, BYD showed the second generation: up to 1,500 kilowatts, and 9 minutes to 97 percent. The first such station in Europe opened in June. By the end of the year, BYD plans 3,000. Why this race? Charging time is the last strong argument against electric cars. The catch: only cars built for this technology can take that much power, and the station needs its own energy storage. And for now, all the figures come from the manufacturer alone.
