CATL: battery charging in 6 minutes 27 seconds
About this video
6 minutes 27 seconds. That is how long, according to CATL, its new battery takes to charge from 10 to 98 percent. This is Shenxing III, an LFP battery unveiled in Beijing in April. To 80 percent: 3 minutes 44 seconds. 1,000 kilometers is a different battery, Qilin III: a 125 kilowatt-hour pack weighing 625 kilograms. Headlines merge both figures into one battery. CATL has given no charging time for the Qilin. Alongside, CATL is building a network: 1,470 charging and battery swap stations today, 4,000 by the end of the year. Why? The battery is 30 to 40 percent of a car's cost, and CATL holds 39 percent of the battery market. It wants to sell the whole way of powering cars. The catch: these are the maker's claims, with no test cycle given, and no car with these batteries has been announced.
