BYD ahead of Tesla in Europe
About this video
3,793 cars. That is how far BYD pulled ahead of Tesla in Europe in the first half of the year. 174 thousand to 170. That is according to data from the European carmakers' association. But this is not a duel of electric cars. Tesla sells only battery cars. BYD sells largely hybrids. In Germany, over 60 percent of BYD registrations are plug-in hybrids. The reason is simple. A BYD electric car pays 27 percent duty in the EU. A hybrid, 10. And one more thing: Tesla is not falling at all. This year it is growing by more than half. BYD is simply growing faster. And in Germany alone, after 9 months, Tesla is still ahead. This race is much closer than the headlines say.
