XPeng: robots worth over $6 billion
About this video
Over 6 billion dollars. That is what XPeng's robotics unit is worth, before it has sold a single robot. In September, the company launched a production line for its IRON humanoid in Guangzhou. The first unit walked off it on its own. The company's boss hung an employee badge around its neck. The plan: over 1,000 robots a month by the end of the year. Deliveries to customers only next year. Why does a carmaker need robots? Because it is the same technology: cameras, batteries and software from cars. And because making money on cars in China is getting harder. Of more than 480 electric car makers, about 40 are left. To be fair: there is no price, and no paying customer either. For now, it is more a story for investors than a robot for work.
